We were excited to hold our first workshop this week with a brand-new cohort of heritage organisations taking part in the second phase of the Story Tellers: Art in Heritage programme.
We’ve been working in partnership with Story Tellers, an Arts Council funded arts and cultural programme bringing people together across East Lindsey, Boston and South Holland, to celebrate local heritage, explore the stories of our places and create new experiences through creativity.
Building on last year’s programme, which seed-funded artists and heritage organisations to undertake R&D and develop new strands of work, this year we’re turning the focus towards heritage organisations themselves – supporting them to build the skills, confidence and experience to commission artists and develop ambitious new creative projects.
Four heritage organisations have now come together to begin that journey: exploring what makes a strong artist brief, thinking about the stories they want to tell and considering how working with an artist can open up new ways for people to engage with heritage.
Over the coming months, we’re looking forward to working with Spalding Gentlemen’s Society, Kirton Church, Horncastle History and Heritage Society and National Trust’s Tattershall Castle as they develop and commission new artist-led projects inspired by their distinctive places, collections and histories.
We can’t wait to see where they take us.
