A&H are proud to have collaborated with Tullie on a new art offering at the museum, Serena Korda’s Hold Fast, Stand Sure, I Scream a Revolution.
Tullie, Cumbria’s largest museum, is set to unveil its new revitalised spaces on Saturday 26 April 2025. This exciting transformation will enhance the visitor experience with a modernised welcome area and entrance, a brand-new shop, and the newly developed Carlisle Gallery, which will showcase the rich history of the iconic border city.
The museum’s art offerings extend into the new welcome space, where visitors will be greeted by Serena Korda’s Hold Fast, Stand Sure, I Scream a Revolution—a striking, large-scale ceramic mushroom installation suspended from the ceiling. Acquired with support from Arts&Heritage, Arts Council England, the V&A Purchase Grant Fund, Art Fund and the Henry Moore Foundation, this major work is a significant addition to the museum’s contemporary collection.
To accompany the installation, Korda collaborated with musician Chris Eagon Searle to produce a site-specific soundscape. Korda sought suggestions for ‘thin places’ in and around Carlisle from the community. ‘Thin places’ are anomalies in the landscape which were viewed in pre-Christian times as access points to the afterlife. Field recordings were made at the suggested locations, then combined with recordings of the mushrooms being played to form the soundscape.
