ARTS&HERITAGE Artist Commission: Bartonsham Meadows, Hereford

A&H is delighted to announce an open call for an artist commission in Bartonsham Meadows, Hereford as part of our Common Lands programme.

We are inviting artists to apply for this commission opportunity whose practice lies in the interest of ecology, nature, community-led regeneration and historic land ownership. The successful artist will work with ourselves, the Friends of Bartonsham Meadows, Hereford Wildlife Trust and local communities to develop ideas for a new work based on the history of the site and its new vision.

The site has a rich history that includes folklore and farming traditions as well as contemporary usage which artists will draw from to form new creative ideas and deliver this new work.

Overview:

  • Location: Hereford
  • Commission Budget including artist fee: £10,000 inc VAT (approx. £2,000 fee, £1,000 travel and accommodation if needed, £7,000 making/ presentation/ removal and/ or making good)
  • Access support/ rider funded separately (see brief)

Timeline:

  • Expression of Interest Deadline: 5pm, Wednesday 29 May 2024 
  • If Shortlisted, Full Proposal Developed: 10 June – 9 August 2024 with Research Fee of £333 followed by Zoom interview mid-August 2024
  • Artist appointed by: early September 2024.
  • Commission Timeline:  September 2024 – April 2025.

The commission is in partnership with Friends of Bartonsham Meadows and the Herefordshire Wildlife Trust is supported by Hereford Museums, the Courtyard and Hereford College of Art. The commission is generously funded by the Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund with financial assistance from The Elmley Foundation.
